Rules versus Rebellion. At the beginning of the novel, Stella and Will hold opposing views on rule-following and rebelling. Stella is determined to stick to her regimen and follow the hospital’s rules. Will, on the other hand, sees no point in trying to stay healthy as he feels certain he will die soon and chooses to rebel against rules instead.

A few months ago I read the novel version of “Five Feet Apart,” and I can confidently say the movie follows the plot of the written book very closely. While I did know the ending, it did not make me any less excited. While I quietly prayed for Stella to hold her breath for a second longer, my dad most likely thought I was going insane.

Five Feet Apart sendiri bercerita tentang Stella (Haley Lu Richardson) dan Will (Cole Sprouse), penderita penyakit cystic fibrosis (CF) yang saling jatuh cinta. CF sendiri adalah penyakit genetis yang menyerang paru-paru, membuat penderitanya memproduksi terlalu banyak cairan lendir. Membuat paru-paru mereka sulit untuk berfungsi secara maksimal.

Once Will realizes what a serious threat he poses to Stella’s chance at receiving a lung transplant, he tries to pull apart from her. However, Stella feels tired of all that cystic fibrosis has taken from her. Stella suggests they take one foot back for themselves and stay five feet apart instead of six.
